Tips for Preparing for a Move in Montreal

How to Prepare for a Move in Montreal: A Practical Guide

June: The Month of Moving for Thousands of Quebecers
Moving is no small feat! Whether you’re planning to relocate during the busy season or at another time of the year, preparation is the key to a smooth move.

HOW TO GET STARTED FOR AN EFFICIENT MOVE?

  • Set your moving date: If you’re moving during peak season (June to July), book early! Otherwise, scheduling six weeks in advance should suffice.
  • Start decluttering now: Clean out your space by throwing away, donating, or selling items you no longer need. Travel light for your move!

PLANNING IS ESSENTIAL

  • Gather supplies: boxes, packing tape, markers (black and red), and unprinted newspaper to wrap fragile items.
  • Prioritize boxes over bags for better protection and organization.
  • Check if you need to reserve the elevator or parking space for moving day.

PACKING TIPS FROM THE EXPERTS

  • Avoid oversized boxes: They become difficult to handle when full.
  • Fill boxes properly to prevent items from shifting during transit.
  • Label fragile items clearly.
  • Use markers to indicate each box’s destination (e.g., kitchen, bedroom) and its general contents (e.g., cookware, sports gear).

THE DAY BEFORE MOVING

  • Disassemble furniture, unless your movers handle this task.
  • Roll and secure rugs.
  • Unplug your washing machine and drain the hose.
  • Disconnect electronics (TVs, computers) and draw diagrams for reassembly if needed.
  • Pack essential items in a small suitcase for the transition period.

MOVING DAY

  • Unplug the fridge and prepare it for transport.
  • Confirm the destination address with your movers.
  • Double-check empty rooms before leaving, closing each door as you go.

ONCE YOU ARRIVE

  • Reserve a parking spot for the moving truck.
  • Supervise the movers and note any damaged items on the invoice.

Enjoy a stress-free move with expert planning and preparation!
